I have tried to make a bow twice now. Once with fondant and once with gumpaste. They keep breaking on me. What am I doing wrong? I followed the directions on this site. Am I ever going to make a bow???? I have a cake due in 1 week and need a nice big bow for the top. Thank you guys
Judy
..don't get discouraged! How thin are you rolling the fondant/gumpaste? The first thing that comes to mind is that it is too thin.
Some other thought...I let my loops dry on paper towels..easy to remove once dry.
Also, I don't assemble my bow until I put it on the cake....I believe the directions show that it is put together ahead of time. Different methods work for different people!
..I usually don't go any thinner than 1/4" and I would guess each piece is approximately 6" long...
I roll it pretty thin and dry them on a handle of the broom. (washed of course) LOL. When I roll it out I used powdered sugar so it did not stick. The length is about 7".
Thanks
Judy
I also assemble the bow on the cake. I do a trial run before I "glue" the pieces together because sometimes one piece may fit better than another.
When exactly is the bow breaking? And how is it breaking?
I think I may have to try assembling on the cake. Everything else about the bow is great for me except putting it together. I was making one for a cake last week and it came out terribly!! Something about the way I am trying to put it together is messing me up. I keep the article printed out right in front of me to work on it. But it never-I mean NEVER-comes out looking right. I will have to keep practicing I guess.
