Ok, so i made a cake for my sis who just turned 19 in dec. I was not happy with the roses (although everyone loved them--pic is in my photos).anyways, i made the a bunch of roses on wax paper with the flower nail. then i used the flower lifter to pick them up and place them on the cake. However they kind of stuck to the lifter icon_cry.gif and i found it very difficult to place them on the cake exactly how i wanted. I used the wilton bc recipe. should i have let the roses dry longer..so that they crusted more? i made about 20 and then when i was done started to put them on the cake. Any tips would be appreciated, so that the next time i made roses i do not have this problem with the lifter. i do love cake with roses on them and would like to make more in the future. thanks in advace. icon_biggrin.gif

I make roses on the nail and move them directly to the cake with a pair of scissors. Take the flower off the nail while leaving the scissors slightly open, then close the scissors as you pull it out from under the flower.

Less handling is less chance of messing them up in my mind!

You may find if you twist the flower lifter after closing it that it will help. I twist as I am pulling it away from the flower.

I make my roses on wax paper then pop them in the freezer. Once they are frozen, I put them on the cake. (10-20 minutes) I use a toothpick and scrape under them to remove them from the wax paper. Then I just poke the toothpick into the top of it and put it on the cake.

I just looked at your photo's, and wanted to say that your roses looked great, as did all of your cakes.

Wow...your cakes are terrific.

Majority of the time I freeze my roses and then place on cake.

I love your avatar...I am crazy about jellybeans.

My BIL teases me constantly about two things, being cheap and eating jellybeans icon_lol.gif

thanks, i do enjoy jellybeans, but i gave myself this name bec. my husband sometimes calls me his jellybean...i enjoy the nickname so i used it here. and theres nothing wrong with being cheap, money is hard to earn and any money you save can be spent on cake stuff... icon_lol.gif

Close the flower lifters half way under your rose and lift it up off the wax paper. When you get it in place on the cake, close the lifter completely, THEN use the point of your flower nail and place it against your lifter where it meets the rose. The point of your flower nail will hold your rose in place while you pull the lifters away from it.

You can also do the same with a spatula, but you usually already have the nail in hand around this time anyway.
