I''ve been practicing roses, and I've had a rather hard time getting it right. I've discovered that I have more control when I make my roses BIGGER, and I've finally made an ok rose. I plan to make my roses a bit shorter once I perfect a big rose. The rose I have here is VERY tall. It looks like a rose, it's a little slimmer, but basicly it's just taller. I'm gonna work on this either way, but making an acceptable rose is kind of like a rite of passage for me to go onto course II, so please be BRUTALLY honest, thanks. The pics will litterally be posted in minutes.
I can alreaddy tell by the pictures that this is pretty bad, oh well, here it is...
EDIT: Hmm, I don't understand whats wrong..it's not showing up...
I like it! You definately know what you're doing. I wouldn't have a problem putting it on a cake. If you want a smoother finish, your icing needs to be a bit thinner. Some people also add gel to it......I can't seem to remember the name of it, but you know what I mean....the clear gel.
I say you're doing great! Keep it up!
I just checked again, and I just saw how tall it is.....when you do your "bud", our teacher told us that it should only be as tall as your number 104 tip.
Also, where's your new year's cake???
12 for base, 104 for petals. I just use ALOT of pressure, which keeps my icing from breaking, (my main problem) but makes a taller rose.
Here's a link that shows a video of someone making a rose....and other cake and cooking stuff. I think it's under cake roses...or flowers.....

Thank you, that was helpful.
It looks like you are on the right track! How big was your base? Did you make the center on top of it? It may be your base and bud are too tall. Try to keep your petals closer and be sure to overlap as you start at the top and come down. You are so close. Your icing may be too stiff. I hope this helps and maybe you have it mastered by now. Good Luck your picture is so close.
Your base for the rose should be about the size of a hersheys kiss.....maybe that will help keep the height down if you keep that in mind. You are doing GREAT for a newbie!!
