I bought a white and a chocolate organic cake mix for my nephew's birthday cake. I have this idea in my head that it will be dry for some reason.

Would a banana in the chocolate mix make it more moist? What can I do for the white cake? I can't find organic pudding mix here so that's out. Any other organic ideas to make it super moist?

Thanks!

A banana may make it more moist; however, it will take the taste of the banana for the flavor, or I think it would.

I've never done an organic cake so I'm really not sure... I'll bump this back up to the top and maybe someone else can add some other tips icon_smile.gif

Being organic shouldn't make a cake dry, unless it is a bad recipe to start with. What are the list of ingredients on the package? I assume it has the same ingredients as a scratch cake? You can compare the ingredients (the sooner an ingredient is listed, the more the product contains) and see if they have about the same ratios.

There are serveral brands of organic sour cream, you could add that to moisten it.

Tofutti Frutti also makes a really good organic tofu-based yogurt that you could add (it tastes like vanilla Dannon yogurt). It also comes in chocolate and fruit flavors.

I didn't think about yogurt. I made the chocolate one today and even with a banana it was pretty dry. The number one ingredient is whole wheat flour. So it has a bit of a funky taste and it's dry. I was going to try doing a simple syrup soak to see if it helps.

Thanks for the sour cream and yogurt tip!

We eat mostly organic. Why don't you just make the cake from scratch? I get all my flour, sugar, etc. at the natural food store and I don't put anything bad in it. I have a very good-moist white cake recipe that isn't hard and turns out great every time.
