I made some royal icing pointsettias for a cake for Saturday. I put on those flat red "sparkles" to make them look a little more "fancy", but when the icing started to dry the flowers look really dull. I live in Hawaii and we don't have much selection as far as cake decorating. There is no lusterdust on this island. Does anyone have any great ideas as to how I could give my flowers a shiny look? This is for a Christmas wedding cake, so I want it to have a more polished look. I also am trying to do a white fondant bow for the top of the cake, I'm not sure if it's going to dry in time, but if it does, I want the bow to look a little more "finished". Again, I don't have luster dust, what can I do to it to make it look more polished and not so plain. I know, everyone is thinking I should have planned ahead, but I was just asked to do it this past sunday (that gives me less than a week to plan and make a two tiered wedding cake). Any help would be greatly appreciated. The cake is going to a very deserving family and I want it too be really special. Thanks for all your help.

SarahJane,

I read somewhere that if you place the Royal Icing flowers under a light to dry then it will have more of a shiny look.

Have never tried this so I'm not sure if it will work.

If you try this and it works, please let us know.
