Hello All,
o.k. I feel stupid , I checked out the Nicholas lodge site and I am wondering what are the patchwork cutters used for? I am assuming this is for fondant/gumpaste/modeling chocolate? Would you apply it to buttercream on a cake?
Thanks!!
Joan
Patchwork cutters are awesome!!! You can use them with gumpaste or Mexican paste or fondant or a 50/50 mix. You can do all kinds of things with them, from embossing a cake to making little figurines that stand up to adding decoration on the side of a cake, etc. etc. Check out globalsugarart.com and see their selection. They also have several books by Marion Frost who I believe invented the patchwork cutters. I know she works with them extensively.
They are for cutting gumpaste and fondant. I've never tried them on modeling chocolate but they may work on that. I really don't think they would be useful on BC.
patchwork cutters come in a variety of shapes and themes. you can use gumpaste or fondant - or as i use, a blend of the two. basically they allow you to cut out a shape along with lines of definition. the flowers can be cut flat or you can make them 3-d. check out in my photos the purple and yellow cake with the caped woman on top. those yellow daisies and leaves done with patchwork cutters. hope this helps.
