As you all know, since I've been fa-reakin' about this cake for weeks now..I'm doing my husband's squadron's Christmas party cake for Friday. I got some really great ideas, however, the party size has dropped from 100 people to 50! icon_eek.gif Thank goodness I called her and asked for a final count!!

Anyways, I was thinking of doing a red, white and blue cake? I know its not very Christmas-ish..but I've got a fabulous idea for it... sheet cake with multiple string drops in red white and blue, a reverse shell white border, and a red white and blue "Support our Troops" ribbon in the middle of the cake. Kinda like the ribbon in our emoticons. Then I'll write "Happy Holidays 9LRS 2005"

What do you think? Should I do Christmasy stuff? If so, I have no idea what to do!!

I like the idea you have. What does your husband think? Mine usually doesn't care what the cake looks like, he only wants to eat it!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

My husband said it was a good idea, but I just wanted to get some professional opinions about it. Thanks!

I think your idea sounds nice! If you feel like it should have some Christmas theme to it, how about just adding a couple of pointsettia flowers at each corner?

Sounds lovely, but if you wanted to add a holiday twist... you could add a couple of white X-mas trees (I'm thinking candy melts piped out like colourflow ... with some piped blue & red stars as decorations...) to sit beside the ribbon.... That would keep your patriotic theme / colour scheme intact...

Your idea sounds lovely--especially if not eveyone in the squadron celebrates Christmas. There are so many different cultures mixed together in the US....

DISCLAIMER ... THIS IS NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE!!! IT IS A GENERIC RANT ABOUT BEING OVERLY PC THIS TIME OF YEAR!

I for one am happy to hear Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Good Kwanzaa, Namaste, Happy Winter Solstice, or whatever from anyone! Wishing someone else a happy holiday doesn't assume they celebrate it, and is not demanding an common belief structure! Bringing a cake with GENERIC Christmas images (I'm not talking about CHRIST IS BORN or any other overtly Christian things... just generic holiday images here) is not offensive!

I'm not Christian, and haven't been for a very long time. My DH is, and he takes our kids to church every week. I teach them about my belief structure in other ways. They can make up their own minds when they are grown.

We celebrate Christmas. I am not offended when someone says Merry Christmas. I am not offended if someone brings holiday treats with stars and trees and pointsettias, and Santa, etc images. I am not offended if someone brings treats with pine boughs (a Pagan symbol, BTW) ... same goes for menorahs, dreidels, or the star of David. WHAT YOU BRING IS AN EXPRESSION OF YOUR BELIEFS! My beliefs are not in any way demeaned or diminished by your display of yours.

Live and let live people ... as long as you are not berating me for not going to your version of church, or accosting me with "Jesus is the reason for the season" slogans ('cause face it... he may be your reason - good for you!... but he's not mine!) then JUST ENJOY IT! In whatever way suits you... share your joy in the season, share your good wishes, keep your evangelism to yourself and we'll all get along fine!!!

Sorry in advance if anyone is offended... tapedshut.gif
