does anyone know a good wedding cake recipe that is made from scratch, not cake mix. Just plain white cake and white icing. The butter cream icing that i make is way to sweet and so is the fondant recipe that i got out of a cake book (the well-decorated cake).. also, i need a fondant recipe that is smooth, not too sweet. I've been having problems with fondant!! icon_cry.gif Ahhhhh! please help me...

thanks you guys.. i really appreciate this.. icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't make my wedding cakes from scratch, but my customers think I do because the recipe I use is so good. IMO

I will pm you with it if you want it but it is a cake mix base.

I think you're going to have a really tough time finding a not-to-sweet fondant because all it is is sugar, but if the cake's not too big, maybe you can cover it in white chocolate clay so at least it has really good flavor.

For icing you may want to try italian meringue buttercream. There's a recipe at marthastewartliving.com

Perhaps you could use a Dream Whip icing, which is not as sweet as buttercream and then on top of that use Satin Ice Fondant...I know, I sound like a broken record because I am always saying how good Satin Ice is! ..but it is really good! icon_smile.gif
