My sweet little mil told me today that she ordered me a little chocolate fountain for Christmas, keep in mind I accidently saw the book she ordered it from it is 12 inches tall. So question is does anyone have one of these and what kind of chocolate do you use. Thanks
You can use any type of chocolate I would think. I personally dont have one, but I am about to buy one for my husband for Christmas. He mentioned that he really likes them.
I keep seeing these - they look SO neat! I'd love to hear how anyone who has one likes it - how well it works and what kind they have.
I too keep seeing them in catalogs and they look so neat.
I just did a wedding cake for a couple at church and they had one of these. I believe they said theirs cost $99 fom some catalog.
Now I don't know what kind of chocolate it uses, but I can tell you that their fountain was noisy when they plugged it in. It also shook and it didn't have a nice flow of chocolate. Theirs had gaps instead of a nice curtain of smooth chocolate like you see in the pictures.
It tasted great. They offered the guests strawberries, creme puffs, marshmallows, and pretzels to dip in the fountain. It's such a great idea but I thought that their particuliar fountain left a lot to be desired.....but what can you expect for only $99. I guess the big professional ones are like $500. Yikes!
Just my 2 cents!
I have one that I use for small baby and bridal showers. I love it! You use chocolate chips (I found chocolate chunks that I use at Kroger) and you add 1 cup oil for every package of chips. Melt in microwave and then pour in the bottom of the fountain! Works great! If you look at my website you'll see the picture of it. Click on the picture of the fruit and it will take you to the shower that I used it at.
They have them everywhere here just in time for Christmas. They're running about $70, but look like a chocolate fountain with a crockpot bottom. Not the cutest thing.
Yep, even here in the great white north (Ottawa got snow yesterday that didn't melt) Canadian Tire had them for $88.88 last week, but not the crock pot looking one. This week Walmart has the crockpot one on for $74 or something, Canadian$$.
wow! I just did some research for a friend who used the fountain for 2 different bridal showers...
the first one she did with the oil and chips and she didn't like the taste and it wasn't completely smooth like a curtain (to quote someone before me on this thread).
so...I helped her do some research on the web and what we found out was that for the perfect fountain you need to use a type of chocolate called couverture chocolate....I've copied and pasted the definition from www.wikipedia.org as follows:
"Couverture: is a term used for cocoa butter rich chocolates of the highest quality. Popular brands of couverture used by professional pastry chefs and often sold in gourmet and specialty food stores include: Valrhona, Lindt & Sprüngli, Cacao Barry, Esprit des Alpes, and Guittard. These chocolates contain a high percentage of chocolate liquor (sometimes more than 70 percent) as well as cocoa butter, at least 32-39%, are very fluid when melted and are generally regarded as having an excellent flavor. Chocolate of this quality is often compared to fine wine because subtleties in taste are usually apparent, especially given the variety of semisweet and bittersweet couvertures with different percentages of sugar and chocolate liquor. "
The reason you use oil with the other types of chocolates is to make it more smooth and "runny" wheras couverture chocolate you don't add anything to it....after doing some more research, we found out that most belgian chocolates are classified as couverture chocolates (which would explain why they're so delish)...I think she ended up going to the Godiva store and getting chocolates from there....I think her fountain is probably the same size as yours so it worked ok for her...if you need to know what she actually bought, I'll try to find out.

Costco and JC Penney sells them too! My sister bought me one for my birthday last month but I won't get to see "her" or "it" until turkey day. I'll let ya know though!!
I've seen them on sale a few places this week - including linens and things - for less than $60.
Check out all these chocolate fountains!

Makes me want to get one and some strawberries!
I am doing a wedding cake next month for a bride that said they will have one at the reception...I am curious how big it will be. They sound really neat.
I live in Florida and bought one of these fountains a couple of weeks ago at CVS pharmacy for 30.00. I used it for my sons birthday, everyone had a blast with it and it is very easy to use. Just make sure you add the oil to your chocolate to make it flow easier.
I've done several events with the big ones... you can actually rent them from various places here in Colorado and the chocolate or whatever you want comes with it .. one place does it for $300 with the 15lbs of chocolate... if you dont use it all she'll take it back and donate it to one of our battered womens homes...
one ISIS event had about 10 fountains, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, colored white chocolate.carmel, 2 different flavors of yogurt and of couse anything and everything you could dip in them.. YUMMY!!
