Pricing Mini Doll Cakes.. Help!
Business By briansbaker Updated 18 Nov 2005 , 1:38pm by stephanie214
I made some mini doll cakes for my sisters Quince.. I was the sponsor for this, soo I did not put a price tag on it.. But ever since that night I have a couple of people wanting me to do them for their events.. Here is my problem. Would I do the same for a cake: my price to to make all of them X's 3?
For 14 mini dolls covered in fondant and one reg doll cake:2.99 for 4 mini doll heads--I need 14
2.99 for one reg. doll head--I need 1
It takes about 3 boxes of cake mix to make all these -- 5.00 (give or take a few cents this includes my eggs, water, oil, flour etc...
This does not included the round boards (12 boards for 4.19) I would have to buy 2 packs. Also round grease proof dollies around 2-3 bucks.
Oh yeah I still have to make about a cup of BC icing for each cake to go under the fondant.. Boxes to deliver in, I can get about 6-8 cakes into a big box. The box is about 2 bucks..
So the total will be approx. $50.00
X's 3? $150.00Will someone really pay this price for doll cakes??
I am a little worried that these may not be worth making, being I don't think people will pay for this price..I am afraid to be shot down, being the price is kind of high.. What do you think?
I honestly think that that's an extremely fair price...that only averages about $10.71 a doll....who's going to find a customized mini doll cake for $11???? I think even the grocery stores charge $30-40 for the large ones!
There's ALOT of labor that goes into each dolll...I wouldn't be at all apologetic about charge at LEAST $150!!
Just my 2 cents.

ya she's right..they wouldn't be able to get them ANYWHERE else for that price...
and if they shoot you down, it will only be until they get quoted a higher price somewhere else and then they'll probably come running back
I couldn't agree more.
Go for it, and if they don't want to pay leave them go else were.
They will probably end up calling you back anyways.
WOW, thanks everyone.. I will set a price right around that and stick to my guns!!!!!!!
I charge $45 for the reg. doll and $15 each for the small dolls, take it or leave it.
Not only is cost an issue here, but a lot of detailed work goes into those little buggers!!
I should know, I just did one large doll and three mini dolls this past weekend for my daughter's birthday.
I've had a customer turn me down before, I think the price scared her away, but I intend to go show off my daughter's cakes to her to see what she missed out on!!
Stick to your prices, only you know what goes into it!!
