Bouquet Cake

My first attempt at gumpaste. Roses and Stephanotis, gumpaste ribbons. This cake was a surprise for a bride from her sister - it is inspired by the design i created for the top tier of her wedding cake which i will be making in a month. How cool is that? Devil's food cake with fudge filling and vanilla buttercream. MMF and sugar pearls. I sacrificed a plastic snowman cookie cutter to get the right sized scallop for embossing, then ended up miscalculating anyway so I ended up with a 1" gap. oh well, the cake needed a bow on the front anyway ;) I think it looks very nice aside from the slightly schlubby MMF that i marred with my hand. The flowers looked amazing for my first try. I was asked to replicate the bouquet, but the sister only told me about the purple roses and stephanotis, but when the bride met with me she mentioned something about putting a single pink rose in each of the girl's bouquets to honor her mom who died of breast cancer in February. This stuck with me and i knew i just had to incorporate that as well so a little piece of their mom could be at the shower too. They both loved it - "the guests could not stop staring it" was the comment posted on my facebook page by the sister.
