This was my first attempt at making a wedding cake. Such a sweet story that I feel compelled to share....

I received a phone call from a friend who is the intake specialist for a local nursing home. She explained that two of their residents were widowed several years ago and grew together through shared grief, each offering comfort to the other. Over the years they became extremely close. Despite their feelings for each other, they vowed to never remarry out of respect for their previous spouses. A few months ago, the elderly man became very ill and had to be transferred out of the nursing home for his needs to be better met elsewhere. They weren't able to see each other for many months while he was recuperating. When he returned, he did so with a ring and asked her for her hand.

I was so honored to be asked to share in their special day!
