This is the first birthday cake I ever made. My daughter wanted an alligator cake cause we were having her party at an alligator park and zoo. I made it out of boxed cake mix and buttercream frosting. I made a template out of paper to match the rectangle pan I had and then cut within the confines of the rectangle to get the "parts" I needed. The legs are the corner pieces of the cake. It's two layers with fondant for the scales, malt balls for eyes and I painted the teeth on flat white fondant. The "dirt" is a box of cocoa pebbles with little gummy frogs to keep her company.
