Cake Central Magazine Cake

I was asked to submit a cake for the Then and Now section of the new Cake Central Magazine. I was sent a picture from a 1940s wedding cake and was asked to "modernize it"! I love fun inspiration projects, so I went for it. I decided (due to time constraints) to do a single tall tier for the top of a cupcake tower, and then create some inspiration cupcakes because the cupcake towers are very trendy right now. The design of the cake was inspired by the repetitive (yet unrecognizable) buttercream design on the 1940s cake and the ferns that were placed all around the base. I created a modern fern detail and a repetitive pattern along the bottom of the cake. The silver and black details were hand painted and the green fern was fondant. The whole cake was covered in MMF. I liked how it turned out and so did Cake Central as they published it in the second issue of the magazine! Thanks Leanne and Jackie!! It was such a pleasure working on this project!!
