Thanksgiving Cake

Thanksgiving Cake on Cake Central

8" round; made this cake for a co-worker who asked for a chocolate peanut butter mousse cake. Covered in buttercream (tried Sugarshack method); used instructions from sculpty.com to model the turkey and scarecrow using fondant. First time modelling anything - so obviously I learned alot (and know what not to do next time!!). The calendar is fondant covered with wafer paper. Thanks for looking and Happy Thanksgiving.

very cute cake. figures are adorable! I think the leaves would have looked more realistic if you had used orangey, red, and brown hues like you used for your figures, and if you had dried them on curved forms to add dimension instead of just lying flat. I too like the tag instead of writing on cake! I myself am taking tiptop's advice in this!

I am just amazed that the cake is covered in BC, as I thought it was fondant!! EXCELLENT! All of your little figures are adorable and I, for one, love your leaves. I love the different colors you incorporated into them

GCM - Your figures are so very cute. You did a fantastic job on the sides I don't understand how the rope and tag tie into the theme. Overall a good looking cake.

Your modeling turned out fantastic. I love the fondant tag - yippee no writing on the cake itself! I am wondering about the fondant side of bolders and your rope trim. I think a plain side would work better becasue I don't know what you were trying to achieve. Do you have a gumpaste extruder? I think a smaller rope would have worked for me also. Now I am not sure what is on top is that leaves? Oh, your models colors are fantastic! Great use of wafer paper!

Critique group member: 8O BCD, really? Hoe did you get that pattern on the sides? I love your figures. Fondant can be fun. I am not sure what the cake is sitting on so a "flashier" board might have showcased it even better. Great cake.

Critique Group Member: I am in agreeance with tiptop here. The rope is a tad thick, and the sides, while quite cool, are sort of lost in translation. But impecable smoothness on the BC!! That is not easy to do. Love the modeling too. :)

Critique group member: Wow! I love all the details, the stone wall and rope are perfect and I love the scarecrow! No critique here!

I love the expression on your turkey! The tag around the side is very cute, but I can see what the others are saying about the rope at the bottom. I would have even likes small leaves around the bottom to keep the fall theme going. Otherwise you did great with the modelling

Adorable cake! I love the panicked look on the turkey. Your scarecrow is great and I also really like the use of the tag with the recipient's name. Very clever and fun!
