Hi Everyone!

I want to do a geode cake for a friend of mine and was wondering, can it be done without covering the cake in fondant?  Most of the cakes I see on the internet look like they are fondant covered and I wondered if anyone has done it with on a buttercream cake?  My friend doesn't like fondant at all, even MMF, if I can avoid it, I'd like to.

If you've done this and have pics, that would be great!

Here is an idea of what I'm going for....just on a small scale.  No gold or silver leaf, two tiers.

Thanks!
Christina
