[postimage id="5157" thumb="900"]I'm new to cake decorating and still trying to figure out how to get perfect propotions for each cake to look good.
I have to make a wedding cake that is 3 tier high. But I have to choose the sizes I have to used. They want the cake to look like this one in term of size and propotions but with different design
In your thinking what is the size of each tier and what is the height of each one?
I usually do 5" heigh tiers but that won't look good for small tiers like 6" ... It would look enlongated
It actually could well be 5" height. But the actual height depends how many servings you need. So for example to have a cake with these proportions you could do a 6-8-10 all 5"or 6" high. But you could also do a 8-10-12 all 7" or 6" high or a 4-6-8 all 4" high. See what I mean?
If I'm unsure I use a cake program to play around with sizes. It shows you the proportions and gives you the amount of servings right away. It's called bakingit.com and only works on a computer not phone and is for free ;)
I did a very similar cake 3 tier without the bottom tier. This is 4" high, 10",8",6" cake tins. Do you need to have a certain number of slices as this will affect what size tiers you will have to make.

Julia. Thaaaaank you soo much ... I see what you mwan..I'll download the program.
And what if we make a 4" high cake? What sizes could we choose?
White choc. Thank you that's a very beautiful cake I'll use the same propotions.
The no. of slices doesn't matter in this cake they wanted the smallest size and I'll tell them how many pcs it will make and they will use additional cake to complete the no. of servings they need.
Whitechoc. no the pic is good...and wow the cake is so lerfectly done with those sharp edges... I want to learn that hopefully by practice
