??? Decorating A Ganache Covered Cake

I am making a cake and covering it with ganache. Can I safely put fondant ruffles on the sides of the layers, without having them fall off?  Or do I really need to cover the ganache with fondant first and then add the ruffles?  If I can use just the fondant ruffles, what do you recommend attaching them with?  piping gel, sugar glue or ???   Thanks for any help!!!
