So I'm making my sons birthday cake. I'm an amateur baker hence  my silly question. I've no cake release spray and I'm panicking that most shops are closed tomorrow too for New Year's Day. I have vegatable oil in do you think I could put that in a spray bottle?

You can use rub pan with oil then put some flour and shake pan. This is what I used to use before using the spray with oil and flour.

Ditto to rubbing thin smear of oil in the pan, adding 1-2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and making sure a "dusting" of flour sticks to the entire inside of the pan.  (I shake the excess flour out over a trashcan.)

Happy Baking!  Love your avatar soccer cake!
