Hi everyone!  I'm seeking advice!  I'm going to use acrylic discs to frost my cakes but will have 1/2" of frosting outside the rim of the cake board.  Has anyone applied fondant to this and had any problems stacking the cake?  I am sure I need to use a crusting buttercream but because there is a lip of excess buttercream, will that be a problem in the future when I need to stack the cake?  Any advice would be appreciated!

So are you saying that there's literally nothing supporting the bc or the fondant?  It's just hanging in the air?

Well, yeah, that's a problem.

Have you used acrylic discs!  It gives you anywhere from 1/4-1/2 inch of extra buttercream, so there is an overhang of buttercream.  I want to know if anyone has had problems stacking a cake like this
