Hi I'm hoping that some one can help  me in here.  I am doing a Masquerade Sweet 16 party in November.  I am having cupcakes made but want to put a mask on top of the cupcakes as part of the decoration.  I'm trying to find the best way to make the masks.  I have seen so many amazing toppers but not sure what they are made of.

I love this idea but have no idea on how or what they used to make these.

I thought about just doing chocolate out of a mold but I want something more like this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what the chocolate mold would look like.  Just not fancy enough for me.

They used a silicone mold like this one: http://www.amazon.com/NY-Cake-Silicone-Venetian-Decorating/dp/B00E3EQ7HY and then painted it.

I suggest making them out of gum paste so they dry faster.

I would use fondant and cmc. Or at least gumpaste AND fondant (50:50). You can't eat gum paste and it's a bit disappointing if you can't eat the topper of a cupcake. Otherwise you could as well use (clean!) plastic masks if you have to remove it anyway.
