I've never been asked to make cupcakes, I always decorate cakes.  I've been asked to make two dozen cupcakes but not sure how to charge. I was thinking $1.00 each, but not sure.

I have to make the shark fins out of fondant, not too hard though.

Here is a picture I'm going by. I'd appreciate any help

ACan I ask how much you charge for your cake? Is it by the slice? I'm not a pro, but I can't see you covering your costs or time for $24.

I usually charge $1.00 per slice for my cakes.  That's about all I can get in my area. I know I should get more but noone seems to want to pay .

AI will just repeat what I have read on here in the past. You may be targeting the wrong market. Try using the seach function on this site and search pricing. Weed through all the bickering, and you will find some very useful information. There is a thread right now titled, "everything you ever wanted to know about pricing" , and there are some off site links. Speaking as a novice though, I can't see how $1/serving even pays your costs, let alone your labor. Send the walmart crowd to walmart, and find the crowd who can afford a LUXURY like a custom cake.

Thank You, I'll do that.

Please think about this: At your pricing, you are paying people to be your customers. That means your personal money is subsidizing your business. It would be more lucrative to just get a minimum wage job. Then you wouldn't have all the work and headaches that go along with running a food business.

WeezyS~~The advice provided by mermaidcakery in smalltown California is spot on.   What you have is a hobby, not a part-time income.   You already know this when you REALLY stop and think about it, but (I assume) it is so personally rewarding for you to create cakes that you are letting that over-ride any other consideration.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

In the end I got $35.00 for the cupcakes.
