I am going to marzipan & ice my boyfriends star shaped birthday cake (with royal icing), I am thinking of putting lots of little edible stars (which I can buy ready made in all different colours) on top of the icing.  Does anyone have a way to do this? ie should I place the stars on the icing when the icing is still wet, so that they sick (I'm thinking this could get very messy) or should I somehow use edible glue on the stars or on the icing's surface after the icing has dried?  Thanks for any ideas.

AJust use royal icing as glue after the cake icing has dried.
