How Not To Secure A Wedding Cake Booking....
Decorating By Relznik Updated 6 Oct 2013 , 2:20pm by smittyditty
OMG! WHEN WILL I EVER LEARN? I get verbal diarrhea when I'm nervous and I bet my parting comment to the bride and groom today has cost me an order... he's in the navy, based in Plymouth during the week. As they were leaving I said "I know someone whose husband was in the navy and lives in Plymouth. Sadly, he died though. He was only 39."
SERIOUSLY? WTF am I like? I bet that's bound to have cheered them up and set their hearts aflutter with thoughts of wedding cake!!! NOT.
I am SUCH a muppet!
*sigh*
I said I'd email her my quote later today.... I don't suppose I'll hear back.

AOkay first things first you need to stop being nervous. Have you seen your work? You do such beautiful work. Nothing to be nervous about. You are a professional, you run a successful business and you've got a handle on whay needs to be done to give your clients the best. Kick those nerves in the gut and keep on achieving.
P.S. The only place you're allowed to be nervous is in your car during deliveries lol.
AIn the meantime, when you make it, if you know it was too dry, add more water to it, a little at a time, until it's a texture that you like. You can adjust the amounts of ingredients to make it act the way that you want to, there's no reason why you need to stick to an exact recipe.
I'm sure they hear comments like that all the time, they're probably used to it sadly.
Don't worry about it.

I think you may have your posts mixed up, costumeczar! x x x

I didn't do that, there's something weird with Cake Central going on! I posted that on a gumpaste thread. I've been noticing that I'm getting notifications for threads that I didn't follow, so maybe there's some bug in the system with posting too.
I've been getting that too costumeczar you aren't the only one.
OP I have the exact same problem so pardon me but I laughed pretty hard when I read what you said. I am just
a very open person and sometimes that hurts me. Most of the time I'm fine and people just think I'm weird. lol. or bizarre.
For me though the saving grace is sometimes I don't even think about it till hours later..if I had thought about it when I said it
I would have corrected myself. So anyhow don't beat yourself up they probably had a good laugh about it in the car and will still go with
you. I might even tell her you are sorry in the email.
Thinking of funny words though this will cheer you up its from my friend.
So tonight after the Lake Worth firemen finished showing my boys the cool fire truck, we mentioned that we better get them off to bed which prompted the fireman to then say to my 7 yr old son "Ah, going to bed sounds fun. Can I come over and go to bed with you?"
....awkward silence
....awkward laughter
"Uh...I mean not WITH you. I meant uh...uh, yeah I'm sorry about that"

It made me laugh - it's the sort of thing I would do! (without technical gremlins at work!!)

I think that perhaps, subconsciously, I wanted to get over the fact that "hey, I knew someone in the same job as you"...?? I don't know. However, the first thing that came to mind was the fact he'd passed away (not on duty. He was made redundant from his job a little while ago. He suffered a tragic, sudden medical emergency that took his life. I never met him, but have been friends with his wife via an online parenting site for years).
OMG - too funny re the fire fighter!!!!!!!!
Suzanne, most people wouldn't let that comment, obviously not intended to do harm, interfere with using you to do their cake. Don't be surprised when they contact you wanting to give you a deposit.
I have the same problem, btw. That firefighter story had me literally laughing out loud! And I have to admit I was relieved to hear there is someone in the world more verbally clumsy than I.
Oh wow! Knock me down with a feather!
I emailed her this morning and she emailed back about 10 minutes later to say she wants to go ahead and book.
Yay!
Thanks for your comments, guys.... obviously lots of positive vibes were coming my way!
