AOur friends put their dog to sleep today and I want to make them a small cake. What would be appropriate decorating? I've got some chocolate fondant I'm planning to use and love using luster dust any time I can. Thanks!

I would think no decoration at all. Just comfort food-a great TASTING cake. They probably wouldn't want to think of it as a celebration.

AThanks, I guess you're right, I was hoping I could use this to practice some new techniques but its probably not appropriate in this case.

My brother-in-law had to put his dog to sleep right before Christtmas,he was so distraught he didn't want to eat at all. He had the dog for like 15 years, We just gave him privacy for a couple of days. A nice tasty cake wouldn't hurt.

Sounds like good advice to me. Just like you'd send if any family member died.

This.

If it were me I'd greatly appreciate the gesture even though I might not have any appetite.

Your friends lost a special pet - a member of their family. If you want to take advantage of this occasion to practice your skills, wait several months.
