AI need to paint a sunset on a 6" buttercream cake. How would I go about it? Can I put it in the fridge? Its almost 100 in NM and no humidity so Im not sure if I can leave it on my counter with the swamp cooler running. My house gets maybe 78 degrees at the coolest during the hottest part of the day... help please!
When I wanted a tree bark effect on some buttercream I put my cake in the freezer for about an hour and then brushed on the color that I wanted. But I just had to do just a little bit of dark brown on chocolate buttercream. I don't know how it would work out if you have to do a lot of painting. You might have to paint some and then put it in the freezer again so that it stays hard. Hope that helps a little :)
Keep your cake cold so the buttercream is hard. I've painted a couple of times and I use gel paste that I thin with lemon extract or vodka. Use the white gel paste for more opacity. When your BC starts to get soft, stick it back in the fridge. I think the worst thing is humidity and if you don't have that, then you're golden.
These are what I've painted. Not much but it was fast and easy!
