Propped Lid On Toybox Cake

I would like to make a toybox cake with a hinged style lid partially open and toys showing.  How can I make the lid open without any dowels or supports showing?  I have seen pictures but cannot find any posts explaining how to support the lid.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, look at this link. Maybe you saw it. She use styrofoam, i think she said.hth

another link. uses card board. i am seeing toys,etc are keeping lid up. i like that too.
