AI have a set of hexagon fondant cutters and thought I'd use an orange or black base with layered cutouts but I'm getting confused with the pattern, maybe that's not the way to go? You could do big hexagons in orange, cut out the center with a smaller hexagon cutter and place a red hexagon of the smaller size in it. Lay all the orange hexagons, with red centers next to each other over the cake. Then pipe black icing onto the seams. I hope that makes sense.
