I wanted to start getting ready to make some valentine's day cakes. how could you do so without hearts? :) I wanted to get some heart shaped cake pans so I wanted to see what wilton had at Michael's. I was stunned. the pans looked so cheap. like something you would get from the 99 cents store. I looked at one of the six inches and they were all scratched up, dented, and I could literally Bend the pans with my hands if I wanted to! pitiful, not nearly as good as the round pans. I heard that Fat daddies sells a good line of pans. What do you think. I wanted to get some info before I invest in some new pans.
Fat Daddio and Parrish Magic Line are both very good brands.
You can make a heart shape from a square and a round. Turn the square on point, cut the round in half, and put each half on the upper two sides of the square. Fix together with icing.
You can do more than one layer.
I think Magic Line are the best!
I remember seeing a video on you tube on how to do the heart shape cake!! I have not tried it yet but am looking to try next month!!! Who needs another pan if the square pan and the same size round pan will make the same heart cake? I have too many pans now in my kitchen so this idea is perfect for me!!! Thanks for reminding me about how to make a heart cake since I had forgotten about it!!!
I'd make the heart from a square and a round as described above. But to answer your question, I own Wilton (the Decorator Preferred) blargh, Fat Daddios, hate these the most and Magic Line - the best by far.
Just curious, why do you hate the Fat Daddios? I have quite a few Wilton, because they were the only ones with certain shapes back in the day when I first started, but once I discovered Magic Line that is all I have bought since. I love my Magic Line pans, but I have noticed Fat Daddios has some new shapes that no one else seems to have that I was thinking about getting.
I have the Fat Daddios heart pans and they work well for me.
I have a set of Fat Daddio's and to me, they aren't as thick as the Magic Line pans. My Magic Line's never dent and the Fat Daddio's do.
I also think the outside of the cake gets cooked quicker in the Fat Daddio's. Probably because they aren't as thick.
