I'm making the Wilton Castle Cake (kit) with 10 inch & 6 inch layers (2 layers in each cake); assembling it tonight & tomorrow. Instructions say place tiers on cardboard & ice. They also state to have a 14 inch cake board(s) covered with foil (10 inch cake + plastic turrets).

1.Do I need a 10 inch cardboard, too or just place the bottom cake on the foil covered board & ice it there? 2.Do I refrigerate the layers before crumb coating?

Thanks in advance for any help!

put the 10" cake on the 14" base board. Do not refrigerate.

You can place the cake directly on the 14" cake board. You don't have to put it on the 10" if you don't want to.

You don't need to chill prior to crumb coating. Level, fill and crumb coat your cakes then refrigerate for a while. Then ice.
