Hope someone can help with this.....I have a good friend who is graduating as an emt and has already landed his first job where he will be moving away . I want to make a 3d ambulance cake (the cake part is no problem I've been doing 3D cakes for a while but I wanted the lights on the ambulance to work and to have a siren. I googled it and found a cake on you tube but when I messaged the poster for tips I didn't get a response back. Has anybody done anything like this before or know where I may be able to find the lights and siren? Any tips? Thanks
Ok the lights part...beyond my level of experience for now but as for the sound....
Option 1 You can either purchase an ambulance toy that makes the sound you want (check the dollar stores) and tear that sucker apart and use the sound module
Option 2 Purchase a recordable greeting card which has a small recordable sound module in it and record the siren sound onto it from an online clip or something.
Option 3 Ive heard that in the build a bear stores they have a voice module you can purchase thats like $5 but I havent checked it out yet
Its pretty hard to incorporate the sound module into the cake itself simply because the sound gets too muffled so you will probably want to use a raised cake stand or get some little wooden feet at Michaels to mount under your cake board to raise it off the table so you can mount the sound module to the underside of the board close to the edge so you can activate it when the cake is presented.
Thank you It must have been a longer weekend than I thought because I didn't think of reusing parts from a toy The lights have me stumped. The cake I saw on you tube was amazing!! The lights are built into the cake itself.
Could you use the lights from the toy too and whatever makes the toy light up somehow?
I'm going to look tomorrow for some toys maybe hit up radio shack.....and I'll let you guys know what happens. I guess to wire it on the inside of the cake I will need to make "tunnels" for the wires with straws? Thanks for the help
I've used cheap button lights in a cake. They are simply tiny LEDs in a single unit (a circle about 1/2" round). They come in flashing and steady on varieties. Try googling "flashing blinky lights". The product I used is called "blinkies". HTH
I did a firetruck with lights, it's in my profile. I found the blinking lights at Michaels in the wedding section.
Good luck!
i've done a few vehicles with lights (tractor/two trucks) for the first one i made tunels through the cake with bubble tea straws and had the wires come out of the bottom of the cake board and the lights were wired to batteries. i've learnt since then to make life easier not harder! now i use small finger led lights purchased from dollarama and princess auto. cheep lights that have a little button on them to activate. they last quite a while (i used one for my lighthouse as well). now i use a bubble tea straw and cut it down to fit the led light, i cover the cake in fondant, then insert the straw, and when i'm ready insert the light. hth and good luck! i've never incorporated sound before but would like to!
