Whew let me get it together. A friend of a friend requests a Rum Cake, the same cake she tasted of mine on Thanksgiving. Sure! no problem I say ( so I think) . I bake, she gets cake & then I get the call.... The cake looks beautiful BUT....it's gummy on the inside. WTH?!?!?!?! I don't bake & give away undone cakes. Something must be wrong here. Check list for self: Did you change the recipe? NO, did you beat the batter longer than usual? NO, did you bake for the same amount of time as usual?YES, did you test for done-ness before you took it out of the oven? Hells YES (duh). So what happened? DING, DING, DING... your landlord had to do something for you before the new year since he felt bad about not being able to revamp the bathroom. I got a new stove after Thanksgiving! DAMN,DAMN, DAMN! I wanna cry. All I can think now is if I don't figure something out quick I might as well box up the Kitchenaides. I know I could just bake a few things & figure out the new correct baking times for certain cakes but I don't have money to be wasting ingredients like that for tester cakes. I WANT MY OLD STOVE BACK, not now but RIGHT NOW!
How can I fix this CC family? Any suggestions & feedback is appreciated.
Get an oven thermometer and see if the oven's temperatures are right. They're probably off if the cake wasn't baked through.
I had the same thing happen to me for about 3 months after purchasing a new oven, I ended up ( by trial and error, and a LOT of error ) having to adjust my baking times by a considerable amount. One day I was in Marshalls and they had an oven thermometer there for a couple $$. I bought it on a whim just to see if my oven was getting to the correct temperature. NOPE, come to find out it came from the factory with no temp. setting, it was 25 degrees off. Now I'm back to my old bake times and everything is right with the world.
I suggest trying this is you haven't already. It may be just the factory setting is off.
