I'm making this mud cake for my best friends birthday (which is tonight might i add)

yet have no idea what to fill it with... i saw this eggless mousse recipe but think it maybe slightly too rich and overkill on the chocolate...

obviously i need to have it all sorted before tonight ahhh i feel like i'm under so much pressure lol

if anyone can help thanks in advance much appreciated!

Why not try the chocolate ganache recipe that accompanies the cake recipe.Sounds like that would be delicious. It says that sour cream is used in the ganache to cut some sweetness, if that's what you're worried about. If you want something other than chocolate, I think any kind of fruit mousse would go well. Do a search on the recipe section here for one.

I agree, if you don't want to do the chocolate filling, you could do raspberry or strawberry mousse, or even just use preserves.

With rich chocolate cakes, I like to add some richness and something light to go with it. I usually do a thin layer of ganache, or a caramel filling and then use some type of whipped mousse to go with it. For the whipped mousse I whip some cream, add instant pudding, any flavor, sugar and flavorings to taste. I add cream cheese alot of times too.
