Making A Name Stand On Top A Cake

does anyone have any tips on makeing a name make out of modeling chocolate stand on top a cake without falling. do you stick something on the bottom like a toothpick or what? please help!! thanks

In australia we use wire. It's florist wire with tape over it. Once you have made your letters hold between your fingers and slide the wire in as far as you can. Lay them flat on the bench and smooth them out. Once they have hardened place them into the cake. Just make sure the wire you have pierced the cake with is long enough to hold the weight..

Depending on how thick your letters are you can stick a lollipop stick inside or you can anchor it with a toothpick or skewer. Just keep in mind if you break the wood there might be some splintering. Also if you decide to use wire, that is not food grade so you should insert a stirring straw into the cake first then insert the wire inside the straw so the metal isn't actually touching any part of the cake. HTH.
