Witch Cauldron Cake - Which Pans To Use

I am new to cakes and seen quite a few witch cauldron cakes. My daughter wanted me to try and do one such as what I have seen for her school cake walk. Can I get advise on what cake pan to use. Do I use a ball cake pan or several round cakes. Once I get started I think I can do this, its just getting started. Thank you soooo much in advance

Here is a link to a really great tutorial.. I think she used two 9 inch pans and then a pyrex bowl.

I used 6 inch rounds and then carved a bit off the side of the top layer to give it the cauldron shape.

I decided to try it too and used two 9 inch pans and the sports ball pan. This was super fun
