I have two baby shower cakes in dec., same day. How far in advance can I do all the details. Lots of buttons, bows, and stripes. How to store to keep them from drying out all the way.

I've made fondant/gumpaste decor as much as two weeks ahead. This is for pieces that need to get really hard. For the stripes, I would not make ahead, if you are planning on them going over the edges of the cake. You will need them to still be flexible. You can make and color the fondant ahead, but just store it wrapped and roll out stripes right before you put them on the cake.
