I bought 50lbs of Alpine shortening back in February. I'm storing it in my basement, which stays cool. I'm a hobby baker, so I've only used about 1/2 so far. How long can I safely store it? Just wondering what the shelf life is? Thanks!
I use Sweetex hi ratio. I divide up my 50# cubes into 14oz. portions (equals 2 cups) and put each portion into a cheap plastic food container (I get them 3 or 4 for $1 at the Dollar Store).
I keep it in a cool, dry place out of direct heat and sun and it lasts for well over a year.
