How Do You Do Fondant On Round Cakes?

Hi, I am new to this site and creating cakes, I have made a few cakes and trying to prefect fondant on a round cake, I am not getting the side smooth all the way around. the top looks great ad part of the side but then there is that ripple or overlapping going one. Am i doing something wrong?

A great tip I found was to roll the fondant a bit larger than you need for your cake. This way the ripples are away from your cake once your cake is covered. Then unfold the ripples as you would with a skirt. After you have smoothed it with your hands use your fondant smoothing paddles. And do check out the videos online. There are many techniques and you are bound to find one that works for you. Good luck!
