Hi everyone,
I got a question about rolled buttercream. Did anybody ever use it to cover a cake? How did it come out? I just made chocolate rolled buttercream and really like it but noticed it's much softer than fondant.so I want to get some advice before I try something new.....thanks so much.

Basicmom,

How does it taste and would you share the recipe? I make my own MMF and like the taste but I have heard less than complimentary reviews of the taste of some store bought brands.
Thanks and happy caking

edited to add...well if I would read above I would see the cool link to recipe's... but I am still curious as to how it tastes lol

hi luckylibra,
i just wanted to say the taste is really great. i love to make mmf too.
the only thing that i don't like about rolled butter cream is that it is greasy. not the taste but to work with. but to my opinion it is less sweet than mmf. here is the recipe that i have and if anyone has better hope they can share...

choclate rolled buttercream
1 cup crisco shortening
1 cup corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp chocolate flavoring{optional}
1/4 tsp popcorn salt
1/2 cup cocoa powder
7 to 8 cups of sifted powder sugar

Put all ingredients into a stand mixing bowl leave out 1 cup powder sugar mix with paddle attachment on low then increase till mixture comes together pour the rest of the powder sugar on table need by hand mixture is done when it is able to hold a shape but it is soft not going to be stiff. {i used 8/12 cups of powder sugar it was humid that day. don't be afraid to add more untill you get it the way you want. i also mixed all this by hand on my counter but easier in my kitchen aid... i'm a newbie so if i made any mistakes or there is a better way please post.. we all learn thanks...
