Well, at least it'll taste good. I remember reading hippie stories about a milk shake being made from the placenta, and the new mom drinking it. Yuk! Total yuk!!!

I made the mistake of reading this thread while eating my lunch -- yuck. When I had my first baby, my macho husband who is a doctor asked to see the placenta after the birth. I thought I would hurl, but was surprised when I leaned in close to get a good look and my husband who has delivered babies before (albeit 20 years ago) almost fainted on the spot! It was much fun to see him turn green!

Unless you are weak stomached, go for it and have fun with it.

I'll voluteer the description of the cord my husband gave me,"It was like white, but with like blue inside it. You could see the blue, but not really. It was thick, like the size of my thumb. The little scissors they gave me wouldn't cut it in one snip, I had to, like, push the scissors and saw through it. It was weird. Kinda gross."

When I had my daughter (5 years ago) I had issues with the placenta trying to detach during pregnancy. (I also worked with my OB doc for that past 10 years) So right after delivery she showed me the placenta. I got a super good look and she even picked it up and pulled on it to show me the areas that had died from being detached.
I think this would be a super cool cake idea! When you work around that stuff all the time it looses it's grossness completely. I've made a bloody heart for a cardiologist and a whole torso filled with all of the organ and white chocolate ribs for a internal specialist. (I've also had the pleasure of helping a pathologist with autopsies so nothing really grosses me out)
Besides everytime I eat an apple fritter it reminds me of a placenta and I'm still eating those icon_smile.gif
