I need a perfect recepy of red velvet, I already try one and it taste terrible, can the baking soda be substitute for baking powder because every time that I use baking soda I end trowing the cake!

Could you post the recipe you used? Maybe the recipe used too much baking soda? If the recipe is for one 2-layer cake it should not have more than 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

The baking soda in a red velvet cake recipe is used to balance out the acidity of the buttermilk and vinegar. You cannot replace it with baking powder because then your cake would be too acidic and wouldn't rise properly.
