I've tried covering the 10" cake board with black fondant but it keeps ripping. i don't know what else to do or how to do it. i dislike working with store bought black fondant, but i have no choice. it's so sticky.

When I'm working with ready-made fondant, I often work a little shortening (about a teaspoon or two per pound) and some extra powdered sugar into it, until it has a good working consistency. I even do this with black fondant, and it doesn't alter the color of it, so that's no problem. Then you can work with it just like regular fondant. I agree that many ready-made fondants are too sticky to do anything with!
