I made my first fondant people the other day. They turned out really cute but parts kept breaking off. Should I have done a mix with gum paste? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I like to add tylose (CMC powder) to my fondant when I make figures. I also use a glue made from hot water and tylose to glue the parts together. I use dry spaghetti to hold heads on and such.

Dry spaghetti like aprilismaius said combined with water works really well, especially with arms and standing legs and I use plain old tap water to make smaller things stick. Sometimes I have to hold it for several seconds on heavier things. I haven't done very many fondant figures, so I haven't run into needing anything else but this. I made these little guys last week with my son. We used uncooked spaghetti & a dab of water to hold the heads on the bodies and water for everything else.
