Yes you can but it doesn't look or taste the same I have tried it. Duncan Hines makes a really good Red Velvet cake mix. You can get it at Walmart for .98

One box German Chocolate cake, 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup oil, 1 ounce red food coloring, 3 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla
