I have been looking everywhere for a good home-made red velvet recipe that results in a durable enough cake to stack and carve. Most of the comments I have read have contradicted each other so I am posting the question myself. Anyone know the best (from scratch) red velvet cake recipe for carving??

The Bakerella one is pretty durable. Just make sure to chill well beforehand. http://www.bakerella.com/red-velvet-cake/

Yea, I found that one earlier, but when I looked through the comments Bakerella actually said that it is not so great for carving- only simple shapes... and for some reason I agreed to carve a red velvet cake into a running shoe!! haha

Actually I just solved the problem. I will simply carve the shoe out of a more durable cake flavor and place it on a red velvet cake. They just requested more servings so this works out perfectly! Thanks for your help!
