Just got an inquiry for 400 cupcakes for the Senior Prom. Have never even imagined getting an order that large. Have no idea how much to charge or how to do a display. Have never had a cupcake order before. Any advice on how to price and how much time would it take to frost 400 cupcakes?

What kind of cupcakes? Just simple vanilla with vanilla buttercream and chocolate with chocolate buttercream with some sprinkles?

I would charge $2.50 each...It sounds like a ton but cupcakes really don't take long to pipe icing on. I would buy about 10 1M tips and fill 10 of the largest pastry bags you can find. What takes so long with huge cupcake orders is refilling the pastry bags.

Also, check the home bakery/cottage laws for your state before taking on such a task.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the tips paperfishies, they just want all vanilla with different colored butterecream. No fancy decorations. How far in advance can I bake and freeze?
