Well, I thought I'd post this, because it was absolutely hilarious.....well it was eventually.
I was asked by someone in my church to make a birthday cake last minute for our pastor and his wife. So, I was dying to try out a caramel mud cake recipe and RBI's recipe for white chocolate SMBC. So the plan was, layers of mud cake torted with Dulce De Leche and White Chocolate SMBC. The only problem was, I had bought a 14" board so it wouldn't fit in the fridge. I didn't think this would be a huge issue, however it was a warm day.
Anyway, the cake was made, wasn't totally perfect but it was smooth enough and it was just for taking to a bible study for us all to munch on.
Anyway, my friend picked us up and she always has the car heated up to basically sauna temperatures. So my partner had the cake in the box, sitting on his knee and we literally turned the first corner, when it slid off the board into the side of the box - not a huge huge disaster, but the icing on the side was obviously ruined. However, 15 minutes into the journey..........my partner shouts 'You have got to be kidding me' - I turn round to potentially the funniest by most annoying things I've ever seen.....I'll let the pictures do the talking. Anyway, everyone thought it was hilarious and as I pointed out to the pastor 'It's the most memorable birthday cake you'll ever have' - no one could argue with that!
The cake was delicious and everyone loved it!!!
Bless your heart for having a good attitude! I'm happy to hear it tasted so good. Makes me want to try the same combination.
It actually looks delicious. I could stick a fork in it right now!
i am Glad that I am not the only one who has had this happen! love your attitude! I just told my friend "even cakes have bad days"
I'm so sorry! It looks awesome though!
In related wreckage, today I was carrying an ice-cream cake across campus (I'm a college student-- no car and wanted to celebrate my best friend getting into grad school) and I caught my foot on a step and completely wiped out. My cake looked about like yours, I was covered in icing and ice cream, and am out all the money
I love how the lettering stayed intact!! Great attiude!
Oh my gosh, looks like an earthquake shook it apart! It's nice that you had a before picture...but I'm sure you were sad to deliver the after pic!
Oh no! I am glad that you can have a good laugh at it now and that you have a picture of the finished product before it's little accident .
Ha - the more I look at it the funnier it gets. When it completely dismantled itself for about 3 milliseconds, I could literally have jumped in front of a car, but then I literally killed myself laughing. Had it been a serious cake for a serious event though, you can bet your bottom dollar I would have launched myself of a bridge lol.
So sorry that happened...you have a great sense of humor....I've had it happen too, thank goodness it was for my grand daughter....everyone just grabbed a fork and dug in...
Did you still eat it?
(I would have)! LOL
yeah everyone loved the cake - there was no way it wasn't getting eaten lol.
OMG, I would have dived right into that puppy, sans fork! It looks delicious
Sometimes you just have to laugh. Its all a function of the laws of physics, right?
BAWAHAAAAAA! What ya' gonna do when these things happen! Bless your heart and I'm glad they enjoyed it!
You should submit your story to cakesafe.com to win a free cake safe. BTW, I love your attitude about the whole thing.
Cake disasters are not fun, but I am so glad you can laugh about it. I agree on the "sounds delish" though. Dulce Le Leche/ white chocolate Oh, I got goosebumps.
You should call this photo, "The Anatomy of a Cake". Looks delicious.
look at it this way...if someone wanted a piece sans icing it's much easier to get to this way
Wow, your cake sounds delicious! Sorry about the "separation anxiety" though.
lol guys you are too funny and waaaayyyy to nice! lol.
The cake was scrummy right enough, you just had to imagine that it looked as good as it tasted lol.
It's the thought that counts and I would have still served it as cake is cake no matter what.
Great sense of humour there and I'm glad you didn't have to jump off a bridge but I'm also of the opinion that it looks yummy.
Sigh... now I'm hungry...
Reminds me of when I made my best friend a chocolate raspberry cake for her birthday. The night of her birthday we rented out a limo and took it out to the city. The cake was sitting in the box when everyone got into the limo. As soon as we started driving off, they all passed the cake around to see what it looked like and at the end it ended up on someones lap. With the birthday girl running around the limo hopping from seat to seat. She didn't notice and ended up sitting right on the cake box with the cake still inside! As soon as she noticed what happened she got up, flipped the lid to see the extensive damage done to the cake. Honestly at that point it looked like chocolate pudding with raspberry filling all over. Anyways, she put the cake on her lap, grabbed a fork and dug right in. And so did 13 other people. The cake was history before I knew it.
