Fondant Covered Cupcakes And Cookies

Hi,
Okay I am new at this but i really wanted to make some cupcakes and cookies covered in fondant for my sons 1st bday party! Just the other day i was experimenting with fondant and i made the cupcakes, shapes and all. Once i place the fondant on the cupcake i placed the cupcakes in a tight air container, by morning the fondant was melted! ...Can someone please help me?! Why did it melt and how can i keep that from happening? Is it okay to do the cupcakes and cookies a day before the party?

Just put them in a container that is not air tight. Air tight is great for a few hours if want excess powdered sugar to go away, though.
