i took a petit four class on sunday ... and the instructor had just taught a valentine's day cookie class and showed us the display cookies. we asked her how she got her royal icing so red, and she said the trick was to use some of the Wilton White White first, then add red. she said it helps prep the icing for deeper colors. not sure how that works though!

I have never heard of that before. If someone tries it, please let us know how it turns out.

I have never been able to get anything red or black using wiltons food coloring. Try Americolor super red, they now carry it at Hobby Lobby. Seriously, Wilton food coloring is truly sub par.
