Hello everyone !

This week I have a disco cake and need advice on the best way to cover the cake in fondant. Basically it's a sheet cake and I'm cutting out squares in different colors to act as a disco floor.

I'm not cover the whole top of the sheet cake in the floor.

My question is : is it best to cover the whole sheet cake in white fondant first and then lay the color tiles on top..but this will looked raised

Or:

Should I lay the tiles on the buttercream and try and lay the fondant around it and then cut the sides to size?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
